Going Beyond Our Emotions

One of the biggest lessons I've learned as an athlete, electrician, and business owner is the concept of going beyond emotion. I define Emotion as either positive or negative feelings that affect my decision making.
Some of the biggest positive emotions that drive me to become better, include motivation, inspiration, happiness, and pride. Though these emotions are great and are key to my success and consistent efforts in life, I have learned that I cannot rely on them to become successful.
For example, let's say I have a goal of increasing my activity levels everyday, by going to the gym in the morning. I am excited and inspired to make a difference in my life, so I get all my gym clothes ready and go to sleep excited.
The next day I find that it is rainy and dark making me feel lousy and tired. At this moment, I realize that the feelings of motivation and excitement have faded, leaving only emotions of fatigue and lousiness. Now I have to "go beyond" these feelings, and push myself to go to the gym and begin building myself up.
This ability to "go beyond emotions" is key in all aspects of life because we cannot control what life throws at us, but we can control our responses. So when we feel excited and motivated or tired and lousy, we must be able to push beyond these emotions and achieve what we are planning to achieve.
Some tricks I use to "go beyond my emotions" include, affirming my beliefs out loud such as, " I am strong, able, and excited to go the gym to day" or "I am a super athlete and am more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens me".
Even changing our facial expressions from a frown to a smile and simply saying "Yes" can change our state from a lousy one to a positve one.
So know that we have these tricks and the awareness of "going beyond our emotions", to achieve our Goals, let's go and Make a Difference in our Lives!
